This is only the begining…
This whole thing started as a tangent of wanting to have spell reference cards for my Mythcraft character. I already wanted to learn software like Affinity Publisher but never had a strong need, well this was the motivation I needed. The problem was mass importing all of the data. In comes Dexterous. This web based software helps you prototype cards for cards or board games. You make a layout and then you can upload a CSV file mapped to a table and it auto populates all the field boxes on your layout and before I knew it I had all the arcane spells in and only needed minimal data clean up. No AI used at all! I went ahead and uploaded it to DriveThruRPG.com to use their print on demand services. The results pleased me so I made the rest of the spell sources into cards. It was then the bug bit me and I knew I wanted to sell these to others. To really do that I needed packaging. Thankfully DriveThruRPG had templates for tuckboxes that their service uses. Now I got to use Affinity Publisher to color and layout the tuck boxes. It had a bit of a rough start but as I kept playing with the software I learned where and how I needed to do things like bleed, fill, and orient graphics. Now I’m just waiting for the proofs to appear. While waiting I decided to spin up this domain and website to showcase what I’m making and link to the store pages. Now I want to build more.
So I’m adapting my old campaign material for D&D 5e into Mythcraft. I stopped building it for 5e when the OGL changes were threatened. Even though they walked that back the damage was done as far as trust is concerned. Enter Mythcraft. I had backed their Veil of Eternal Night campaign for 5e and became aware of Mythcraft. It looked interesting but I really wanted to play it to see if it fit my needs. Got to finally play it at GenCon 2025 and my son and I had a blast. It added just the right about of crunch to really make your character choices feel important. You could actually build a character the way you want. They use a class track system where you can easily multiclass or pick only the elements you want to use for your chosen class. My son was so excited that we went to the QuasiReal Publishing booth the next day to pick him up a copy of the core book. When our Saturday game day with Deadlands finished we wanted to fill the slot with something else and he offered to run a mini campaign to showcase the rules to some of his friends. I had to get in as a player and made a spell casting focused troubador. With the mix of talents taken it really feels like an AD&D 2e bard.
That’s how it started but it certainly won’t be the end. I’m currently adapting the 5e races I used in my setting to Mythcraft lineages. I have orcs and goblins done and the rest stated out and working on the world setting text for all of the rest. When that is done I plan to put them together into a lore book and offer that on DriveThruRPG. The full contents will depend on the page count I get after building the lineages. So welcome to my journey and stay tuned for what I build and share in the future!
